    Cleaning, servicing and minor repairs

If a piano is not regularly cleaned inside, it collects a surprising amount of dust, dirt and even foreign objects. Before repairing, regulating or tuning an old piano that hasn’t received the required attention for years, it should be accurately cleaned inside, to remove dirt and objects that could impinge on the correct operation of the piano.

Generally, cleaning and minor repairs can be carried out in your home, without the need to move the whole piano into a repair shop. A quote will always be provided and discussed with you prior to carrying out the work.

Examples of minor repairs:

Sticking keys
Broken strings
Missing key covers

  Major repairs (action)

When a piano requires major repairs or refurbishing, the entire action will need to be moved into the repair shop, where suitable tools and spare parts will be used. Wherever possible, the spare parts used to repair or refurbish your piano are made in the UK, thus ensuring good quality parts and their durability.

   Regulating (Action)

    Regulating (Action)

Regulating a piano involves the mechanical adjustment of the moving parts of the piano, so that each part moves synchronized with the others. Regulation includes adjusting key level, key dip and key spacing, regulating lost motion, adjusting hammer let off and checking, aligning and adjusting dampers and pedals.

Regulating affects the touch and feel of the piano keys, so it’s very important if you want to keep enjoying playing your piano.

Regulation is usually carried out in your home, as it needs to be done on the entire piano. If any repairs are required, however, regulation will be carried out once all the repairs are completed.

A quote will always be provided and discussed with you prior to carrying out the work.

    French Polishing

    French Polishing

Traditional French polishing is a hand applied wood finishing technique that enhances the natural colour and grain of the wood and results in a very high gloss finish. It is considered the best finish for wooden fine furniture and instruments like pianos.

French polishing your piano needs to be carried out in the workshop, where an appropriate environment will ensure there are no flaws in the finishing.
